Historical Information: The Cedars, also known at the "Steamboat House" was built by Rev. Joseph Camp, who moved from Georgia to Alabama's virgin territory in 1833. He and his wife, Sarah, raised 12 children in the home. There is a slave cemetery adjacent to the property and his 1882 autobiography details personal, family, farm and church activities. Munford was the site of the last Civil War skirmish east of the Mississippi and the last confederate casualty and Rev. Camp also recites the history of Andrew Jackson's famous Battle of Talladega (accompanied by Jim Bowie and Sam Houston, Davey Crockett) as well as the native people of the area. Many descendants still live in the area and others have visited from far away. Each adds to the store of history of the house and vicinity.
