Description
One can not help but notice the landmark red barn of The Coe Ranch when traveling through the Hondo Valley going to or from Ruidoso. The Coe Ranch is a treasure, rich in history and rooted on almost 258 acres. Established in 1882, it is one of the most famous historical New Mexico ranches. The ranch was founded by Frank Coe after his pardon by the Governor of New Mexico for his escapades with Billy the Kid during the Lincoln County War. The ranch was prominent in the political, economic and social life of southeastern New Mexico. While under their ownership the Coe family maintained orchards and conducted other agricultural operations. The Coe Ranch was “the place to be” on Saturday nights to dance to and hear the guitar and fiddle playing of Frank and George Coe. The ranch had contracts with Fort Stanton to provide hay, horses and mules for the government. The Rio Ruidoso, which is fed year-round by the runoff from Sierra Blanca and the Sacramento mountains, flows for more than a mile through the ranch and has always fostered the agricultural activity there. Both sides of the Hondo Valley are caressed by the piñon and cedar dotted hills that were often depicted in the landscape paintings of legendary artist Peter Hurd. The Coe Ranch was featured in one of Hurd’s paintings and was the subject of a well-known book, “Ranch on the Ruidoso”. The Coe Ranch is located in Glencoe, New Mexico; just 17 miles east of the resort village of Ruidoso and 55 miles west of Roswell. The Ruidoso Downs Race Track & Billy the Kid Casino, Inn of the Mountain Gods Resort, Casino & Golf Course, Alto Lakes Golf & Country Club, the historic town of Lincoln, New Mexico (site of the Lincoln County War), the Spencer Theater for the Performing Arts, Ski Apache Ski Resort, numerous golf courses, and a well equipped-lighted airport with large jet landing capacities are all within 30 minutes of The Coe Ranch. Hunting, fishing hiking, horse back riding, shopping, Mountain Annie’s Dinner Theater as well as several choice restaurants are also just minutes away. The entire south boundary of the ranch abuts the Lincoln National Forest. Now this historic ranch is being offered for sale to the public exclusively by Bill Pippin Real Estate. The Coe Ranch, with its diverse resources and quality structures could be the gem on which to mount a multi-faceted legacy for generations to come. Offered at $5,395,000 MLS # 102137
